Campaigns

Through a series of impactful campaigns, SCAFON has been tirelessly advocating for the interconnection between people and nature, promoting the preservation of traditional culture alongside biodiversity conservation. Each of the campaign is described below

Connect People and Nature:

This campaign aims to foster a deeper connection between individuals and the natural world by promoting awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the environment. Through various initiatives such as nature walks, educational workshops, and community engagement programs, the campaign seeks to inspire people to reconnect with nature and recognize its intrinsic value.

By highlighting the benefits of spending time outdoors, learning about local ecosystems, and participating in conservation activities, the campaign encourages individuals to become active stewards of the environment. Additionally, efforts are made to address barriers to access, ensuring that people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to connect with nature and experience its beauty and wonder firsthand.

Promote Traditional Culture and

Biodiversity Conservation:

This campaign focuses on the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural practices and knowledge systems that contribute to biodiversity conservation. Recognizing the intimate relationship between culture and nature, the campaign seeks to highlight the role of indigenous and local communities in conserving biodiversity through their traditional practices, rituals, and beliefs.

By celebrating cultural diversity and heritage, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of cultural preservation as a means of safeguarding biodiversity. Efforts are made to support community-led conservation initiatives, empower indigenous peoples, and promote cultural revitalization efforts that contribute to the overall conservation of ecosystems and species.

Conserve Sacred natural sites

This campaign centers on the protection and conservation of sacred natural sites, which hold cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance for indigenous and local communities. These sites, often revered as sacred by traditional cultures, play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, ecosystem health, and cultural identity.

The campaign advocates for the recognition and preservation of these sites as integral parts of conservation efforts, emphasizing the importance of incorporating indigenous knowledge and values into conservation strategies. Through partnerships with local communities, cultural institutions, and government agencies, the campaign works to develop management plans, raise awareness, and secure legal protections for sacred natural sites, ensuring their long-term conservation and cultural vitality.

Speak for IPLC’s Rights:

This campaign focuses on advocating for the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in the context of biodiversity conservation and natural resource management. Recognizing the inherent connection between land, culture, and livelihoods for IPLCs, the campaign aims to amplify their voices, promote their rights, and support their efforts to assert control over their territories and resources.

Through advocacy, capacity-building, and policy engagement, the campaign works to address systemic barriers to IPLCs’ participation in decision-making processes, secure land tenure rights, and uphold their rights to self-determination, free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC), and cultural heritage. By advocating for justice, equity, and inclusion, the campaign strives to ensure that IPLCs play a central role in shaping conservation policies and practices that respect their rights, values, and aspirations.
